We are delighted that Annamaria Gallo is WOCo’s Emerging Artist Designer for 2015. Annamaria graduates this year from an intense practical and creative training in the realisation of design for the stage at RADA. She has been working alongside professional directors for the full two years and within production teams across the second year.
She has collaborated with the National Gallery and the National Theatre in 2013-2014 devising two installations for the public, and public productions at RADA include set and costume design for “The Five Wives of Maurice Pinder” directed by Psyche Stott in the Gielgud Theatre; costumes for “MAD to GO” (Holiday Trilogy by Goldoni) directed by Simona Gonella in the GBS Theatre as well set and costumes for part two of the production “There and Back” which opened in June 2014.
Music is an important part of Annamaria’s inspiration. Annamaria said, “music supports me visualising and developing characters and their situations. Of course in my opera project work I translate the sound into images and colours and yet I am fully aware of how text analysis is critical to the development of visual ideas too”.
Annamaria is giving us a sneak preview of her creative process in sharing these design images with us. Join us on 5, 7 and 8 August at the Château de Panloy to see the designs come to life on the stage in the 2015 production of Gianni Schicchi.
